Furze Platt wildflower workshops
We are in collaboration with Furze Platt Senior School to run a series of wildflower workshops, with the aim of planting a wildflower meadow on a unused area of lawn on the school grounds. We have received £720 worth of funding from the Youth Voice Youth Choice Grant.

We are hoping to execute this project in Spring 2022.
02
Grow Wild hedgerow workshop
In Spring 2021 we received £500 worth of funding from Grow Wild, the national outreach learning initiative of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The grant allowed us to run a workshop in the local area to teach young children about the importance of native hedgerows.
We ran this workshop with the 1st Cookham Dean Brownies on 30th September 2021, where we took the children through an artistic evening to produce a soundscape and drama performance based on the hedgerows in the Dean.
If you're a youth group leader who wants to run a similar workshop, find the full details here!

BioBlitz
A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time, helping us get a snapshot of the biodiversity in that area.
Two of our members have attended a BioBlitz hosted at Waltham Place in Maidenhead this summer and found a large variety of insects!

We hope to run some of our own BioBlitz's in the near future around the SL6 area.
04
Birdboxes in Battlemead
We teamed up with Wild Cookham and the council to install over 20 bluetit boxes in Spring 2021.
We successfully identified prime trees to attach the boxes to and after just a month we surveyed a number of boxes which had attracted a breeding pair.

Take a look around Battlemead next time you're on a walk and see if you can spot our boxes!

Hazel Dormice Survey
We have completed two surveys in search of the illusive Hazel Dormouse in the area of wood located next to Harwood House in Cookham Dean over the past year. We have learnt the intricate skill of identifying empty hazelnut shells to see whether dormice are present. So far no luck, but we hope to run more surveys in this area of wood and the surrounding corridors.
